Wall anchors are a proven system for stabilizing basement walls that are bowing, leaning, or cracking under lateral soil pressure. The system consists of an interior wall plate, a steel rod, and an earth anchor installed in stable soil well beyond the foundation wall.
Installation begins by driving a small-diameter steel rod through the basement wall and into the soil beyond. At the far end, an earth anchor (similar to a helical pier plate) is installed in competent soil. On the interior, a steel plate is attached to the wall and secured to the rod. Tightening the nut on the rod creates tension that counters the inward soil pressure.
Over time, periodic tightening during favorable soil conditions (typically dry summer months when the soil contracts) can gradually pull the wall back toward its original position. This makes wall anchors both a stabilization and a correction system.
